What is World No Tobacco Day?

Each year the World Health Organization hosts an annual awareness event that draws worldwide attention to the tobacco epidemic and highlights the need to reduce tobacco use.  Reality Check wants to raise awareness to the OVERWHELMING amount of tobacco marketing in our community.  Think about it, Tobacco is the NUMBER 1 cause of preventable death in the United States.  Tobacco kills more than 480,000 people annually – more than AIDS, alcohol, car accidents, illegal drugs, murders and suicides combined.

Even though we know the stats about tobacco, it continues to be marketed at grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations and convenience stores.  Many of these areas are close to schools, parks and playgrounds, community centers and target low income communities.

Marketing the NUMBER 1 cause of preventable death in a way that influences kids to smoke and targets at risk communities just doesn’t sit well with us.

At this skateboarding event we will share all the ways that WE’VE SEEN ENOUGH TOBACCO MARKETING and discuss all the ways that we work to see less.

Alright, enough talk- register to skate!
